Swim out to the Lorelei bathing islands in Lake Uri. The 3 islands made of Gotthard tunnel rock are located in the Reuss delta and invite you to sunbathe with their sandy beach and flat stone slabs. And best of all: Admission is free.
The Lorelei bathing islands at a glance
The three bathing islands are located in the Reuss delta on the southern shore of Lake Uri, between Seedorf and Flüelen in the canton of Uri. They were heaped up from 3.3 million tonnes of excavated material from the Gotthard railway base tunnel and can only be reached by swimming. From the shore it is about 40 meters. Admission is free.
What to experience
Swim to the islands and soak up the sun
From the shore you swim about 40 meters to the 3 islands. You lie in the sun on the flat stone slabs and there is a sandy beach on the island side towards the shore. If you prefer to stay on the lakeshore, you will also find a sandy and pebble beach for Baden.?
- Good to know: There is no lifeguard, safe swimming is a prerequisite.
- Tip: Arrival by train or boat to Flüelen, there are no parking spaces on site.
Picnics and barbecues in the Reuss Delta
Around the bathing islands there are barbecue areas, playgrounds, outdoor showers and toilet facilities. Spread out your beach towel and spend a whole day in the Reuss Delta. The area is a nature and landscape conservation area of national importance. Baden is only allowed in the marked area and on the Lorelei Islands.
- Good to know: Use your own grills only on the designated fireplaces.
