Intro
On the waterfront of Montreux, more than 170 festively illuminated chalets on Lake Geneva (Lac Léman) are lined up. You'll taste vin chaud, find Christmas presents and experience the flying Santa Claus over the water.
Montreux Noël Christmas Market at a glance
The Montreux Noël Christmas market stretches along the lakeside promenade of Lake Geneva, through the Grand-Rue and the covered market. The more than 170 chalets offer handicrafts, Christmas decorations, local specialities and gastronomic offerings. The market takes place annually from the end of November to December 24 and is open to the public free of charge.
What to experience
Shopping, eating and enjoying
Between the illuminated chalets along the lakeside promenade, you will find handicrafts, jewellry, Christmas decorations and local delicacies. Cheese fondue in a loaf of bread, hot chestnuts, crêpes and vin chaud are the classics of the market. On the Place du Marché, ride the Ferris wheel and look out over the illuminated promenade and Lake Geneva from above.
- Good to know: The visit to the market is free of charge.
- Tip: Take advantage of the journey by train – the market is only 200 metres from the train station.
The Flying Santa Claus (Santa Claus)
Every evening, watch Santa Claus fly in a sleigh from the lakeshore across Lake Geneva to the market square. You can watch the spectacle directly on the promenade, from the Ferris wheel or from a balcony of the market restaurants. The SchauSpiel is a highlight of the market for children and adults alike.
- Good to know: Daily at 5, 6 and 7 p.m., Saturdays additionally at 4 p.m.
- Tip: From the balcony of the Chalet Fondue restaurant, you have a good seat for the show.
Santa's house on the Rochers-de-Naye
Take the cogwheel train from Montreux to 2042 meters up to Santa's house on the Rochers-de-Naye. There you will meet Santa Claus himself in his grotto and enjoy the view over Lake Geneva and the Alps. The excursion destination is particularly popular with families with children – a reservation of the train is recommended.
- Good to know: Santa's house is only accessible by Santa train; Reservation required.
- Tip: Book tickets early, the train is booked up quickly, especially on weekends.
