Intro
Understanding language - in both senses of the word. Visitors gain in-depth insights into various areas of language and communication from research and practice.
On an area of 250 square meters, topics from the field of language and communication are presented to a broad interested audience. Pupils at secondary levels I & II are also specifically targeted. The exhibition currently focuses on four topics:
Language history: How did the German language originate? Follow the development of the language from the Germanic tribes to the 20th century and discover where many everyday words come from.
Languages and language families of the world: discover the diversity of natural languages and language families around the globe. For example, where do people speak Evenkish, what does this language sound like and what are its characteristics?
Dialect: How well do you know the Swiss dialects? Playfully test your knowledge and learn more about the diversity and research of our dialects.
Reading: Reading does not come naturally. Find out how we master this complex skill and how pupils learned to read in the past. Read in Arabic or Chinese and take a look at reading in the 18th and 19th centuries.
