What to experience
Discover Tinguely's machine sculptures (1-2 hours)
In the central hall are Tinguely's large machine sculptures, some several meters high. You set many works in motion yourself at the touch of a button and hear them rattling and clattering. The multimedia guide Meta-Tinguely takes you to selected works and explains their mechanics.
- Good to know: Admission is free on Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m.
Create your own drawing with the Méta-Matic
The replica of Tinguely's Méta-Matic No. 10 you set a machine in motion yourself that draws. You choose pen and paint and take the finished picture home with you as a souvenir. With his Méta-Matics, Tinguely catapulted himself onto the front pages of international newspapers.
- Good to know: You can buy coins and paper for the machine at the museum ticket office.
Mengele Dance of Death
On the 2nd floor, the museum shows the Mengele Dance of Death, a major work from Tinguely's late work. He formed a gloomy group of sculptures from burnt machine parts. You can start the movement with the floor button: The machines squeak and groan, their shadows dance on the walls.
- Good to know: Between the movement phases, the work takes a break of about 10 minutes.
