Intro

The Rhine provides the Schaffhauserland with refreshing water. On hot days, refreshment is not only to be found at the Rhine Falls. There is also a lot to discover in the medieval towns of Schaffhausen and Stein am Rhein.

The mighty mass of water thundering down the Rhine Falls captivates everyone stood on the banks. As the spray hits their faces, visitors marvel at witnessing this powerful spectacle of nature.

Onwards to Schaffhausen. Locals and guests stroll leisurely along the Lindli lakeside path and are amazed by the shimmering blue of the Rhine. The longest river in Switzerland is bustling with activity, the scheduled boat passes by, and rubber dinghies radiate in all shapes and colours. Here and there, someone punts upstream on the flat-bottomed boat – the Weidling – to then drift peacefully downstream again in no rush at all. Do you fancy experiencing this for yourself? Click here to go to punting in a Weidling

The water flows through hidden underground passages to the numerous fountains in the heart of Schaffhausen’s old town. The splashing water that flows from the pipes into the fountain basins delights both young and old, providing welcome refreshment. Schaffhausen is known for its many fountains, which attract countless visitors to the medieval town every year. For centuries, many legends and stories have been told about the clear water and Johanna Bremblin, the wife of the fountain king. Go back to 1620 on a fountain tour and learn all about it.

With all that has been seen to digest, the journey now continues upstream. Whether on one of the scheduled boats of the Untersee and Rhine Navigation Company, by train, on foot or on two wheels, discover one of the most beautiful river landscapes in Europe. The destination is the gem of Stein am Rhein. The well-preserved medieval town enchants with beautiful buildings and various anecdotes just waiting to be shared. Take part in one of the guided tours and discover many interesting and curious facts.
