Alter Schwyzerweg
Overview
Intro
The gorgeous winter hiking trail follows the historic “Alter Schwyzerweg”, which was built in the 14th century to provide the shortest connection between Yberg and Schwyz. The area is shaped by moorland landscapes, Alpine meadows and a striking mountain backdrop.
Description
The winter hiking trail begins at the top end of the Ibergeregg pass. Anyone looking to ease themselves in gently can take a detour to the sun terrace of the “Passhöhe” restaurant.
The route begins in the midst of an open moorland landscape that is also a conservation area. In the snow-covered scenery, the forests and the mountain pines are particularly eye-catching. For the most part, the path follows an old mule track. Thick wooden planks were arranged on the boggy route back then and the gaps were filled with soil and gravel. The path was later renovated using the traditional construction method.
This is followed by a slight climb up towards Oberiberg. Arriving in Änglisfang, you are greeted by a magnificent view of the village of Oberiberg and the mountains of the Yberg region. The path is groomed all the way.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
