Avers-Bergalga-Loipe
Overview
Intro
The cross-country ski trail in the treeless Bergalga valley, a tributary of the higher Avers valley, is above all peaceful. With the Cavetta ski lodges far behind, the only distractions are snow-covered mountain peaks like the Gletscherhorn or Wengahorn.
Description
In Bergalga, a tributary of the higher Avers valley south of Andeer, there is still untouched wilderness and tranquillity. Its seclusion has spared Avers from military invasion and devastation since the 14th century. Its culturally and historically important buildings, in particular the traditional Walser houses, have largely been preserved, as have the original settlement structures. Alongside the many scenic attractions, the buildings give the valley a certain charm.
The cross-country ski trail starts in Avers-Juppa, which can also be reached easily by PostBus. From the button lift, the trail continuously follows the snow-covered Bergalga stream. Past the Cavetta ski lodges the track plunges into the Bergalga valley. The further you glide into the open, secluded, almost flat valley, the quieter it gets. You won’t even hear the chirps of the marmots during winter. This is however not surprising as the cute rodents are hibernating. The treeless valley is in fact one of the Alpine regions with the most marmots.
As you ski through this lonely landscape, the hectic rush of everyday life simply slips away. You are only distracted by the snowy mountain peaks that surround you, namely the Piz Platta, Gletscherhorn, Wengahorn or Grauhörner. And if you scour the slopes carefully, your gaze might be drawn by chamois, ibex, golden eagles or even bearded vultures. At Alp Bergalga, the trail crosses a small bridge and then continues on the other side of the valley back to Avers-Juppa.
