At an altitude of 1301 m, Mt. Raimeux is located on the border between the Canton Jura and the Bernese Jura. The views from the summit of the valley of Delémont are spectacular. When the weather is clear, even the Alps are visible in the distance. Surrounded by waterfalls and gorges, the Gore Virat creek is the jewel of the Raimeux mountain range.
Description
The challenging tour leads from Corcelles up to Mt. Raimeux. The area with its many gorges and rocky ridges is popular with climbers, but those who look for peace and quiet will also like this hike. To get to the Raimeux ridge, you first follow the Gore Virat creek. It flows from Mt. Raimeux down to the village of Corcelles. The path meanders through the rich forest vegetation where stunningly beautiful landscapes can be explored. The trail is steep and requires good physical fitness, but stairs have been built to get through the most challenging passages. Boardwalks and footbridges are also provided, where you can safely watch the waterfalls.
Along the way, you come across the Restaurant du Raimeux. Take a break here and taste the regional specialties that are served. Until you get to the ridge, the path crosses tree-covered pastures. These are typical for the Bernese Jura. Continue following the ridge until you reach the summit. The former military tower Le Signal, recognizable by its triangular shape, is located on Mt. Raimeux. The view of the valleys and mountains from the top of the tower is awesome. Even the Vosges mountain range is vaguely visible far in the distance.
The path then leads back to the valley, past the Bergerie du Signal, which also offers regional food. The tour alternates between tree-covered pastures and rocky terrain. Through the Combe des Geais in the forest and down several switchbacks, it ends in Grandval, which extends along both sides of the Raus, a tributary of the Birs River.
