Chemin du Jura
Overview
Intro
From St. Ursanne, the route follows the Doubs river to Tariche. It then meets the trail commemorating the 40th anniversary of the canton of Jura, and continues on to the intersection of the three Jura districts. You then continue hiking on the ridge. In view: the Delémont and Doubs valleys. The descent leads to the destination for this stage at Glovelier.
Description
The picturesque town of St. Ursanne is also called the pearl of the Jura. It is located on the unspoilt Doubs River, which makes a wide arc here before flowing into neighbouring France. The hike starts in the heart of the old town. Galleries and antique shops line the streets and alleys, along with a variety of historical buildings, including the collegiate church. You cross the Doubs via the Saint-Jean Népomucène bridge, which was renovated in 2016. Together with three city gates, they form the only entrances to St. Ursanne.
You follow the idyllic course of the Doubs river for around an hour and a half to the campsite on the opposite side. The river can be crossed under your own power using a barge and winch. Depending on weather conditions and water levels, it may not be possible to cross the Doubs by barge. In this case, the route is not accessible (see below for further information). The border waters between Switzerland and France are a habitat and home to many rare animal species. In addition to brown trout and grayling, the special Doubs trout, the south-west European nase and the Roi du Doubs also live here.
The leisurely part is now over: the next two hours involve hiking uphill; through the beautiful, primeval forest to the Les Errauts farm. The path turns into a road there. Shortly before Sceut-Dessus, you have finished with the altitude difference and you leave the Doubs Nature Park, which covers an area of around 300 km2.
Pastures and forest sections alternate across the ridge of Les Pontins for the next hour. This is followed by the final part of this stage with the Combe du Bé as far as the destination in Glovelier. If you look closely, you will discover frogs, fire salamanders and other reptiles on the final stretch of the trail, up to the entrance to the village. This long and narrow town has been part of the municipality of Haute-Sorne since 2013 and is one of the gateways to the Freiberge.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
