Chemin La Fouly–Prayon
Overview
Intro
The easy loop hike shows Val Ferret from its most beautiful side. The hidden glacier valley beckons with its pristine natural beauty and an amazing mountain backdrop.
Description
The tour begins in the centre of the peaceful mountain village of La Fouly in the Valais. La Fouly is located at the heart of the untouched Val Ferret glacier valley. At an altitude of 1600 m, La Fouly is the highest year-round inhabited village of Val Ferret and a popular stop-over on the classic Haute Route ski tour leading from Chamonix to Zermatt. But ski touring enthusiasts are not the only ones who appreciate the tranquillity of the lovely village. Val Ferret is a paradise for winter hikers: crunching snow, mysterious forests and winter landscapes sparkling in the sun are an extraordinary experience.
From the village centre, follow the road going north to the Grand Hôtel du Val Ferret. The trail turns left immediately after the large parking area and leads down to the water inlet of the Dranse de Ferret river. The source of the latter is at Col du Bandarray and on its way through the Mont Blanc massif it picks up the water of several glaciers. Continue through the snow-covered Forêt Derrière to a small Alpine hamlet. With its old hamlets and intact nature Val Ferret has preserved its original charm. Use caution when you cross the busy road and follow the route across snow-covered Alpine meadows and rushing glacial streams to La Seiloz. Past countless appealing chalets, the winter hiking trail continues to Prayon.
From there, take the same route back to La Rogneuse. On the return you can enjoy the views of impressive Mont Dolent which dominates Val Ferret. The borders of France, Italy and Switzerland come together at the 3820 m peak. Near La Rogneuse the trail turns left and ascends gently all the way to La Fouly.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
