Courtavey Bike
Overview
Intro
This 12 km excursion between the resort and upper pastures, of medium difficulty, is a last test before attacking the more difficult routes on offer in Crans-Montana. The route offers a good compromise between all terrains: tarmac, beaten earth and paths.
Description
Crans-Montana extends over a high sunny terrace above the Rhone Valley. The traditional holiday resort is famous for its international golf tournament and winter sports. In the summer, you can discover a large number of mountain biking routes and trails.
The Courtavey Bike route begins close to the small Etang d’Ycoor and Etang Gernon lakes in the historic centre of Crans-Montana. You rapidly ascend on surfaced roads and reach a viewpoint above Les Barzettes with a view of the Rhone Valley, which stretches out around 1,000 metres below. Behind, you can see the peaks of the Weisshorn, Zinalrothorn and the striking Dent Blanche in the imposing Alpine panorama. At Les Marolires, the route crosses the famous “Piste Nationale” ski slope, one of the oldest courses in Switzerland, which has been hosting international ski races since the 1970s. Along the flank of the local mountain, Mont Lachaux, the alternation between open sections and short, flowy forest paths dominates, the latter of which ensure a fun ride, particularly on the descent. At the Arnouva cable car mountain station, you can take a break at the restaurant of the same name, which has a large sun terrace.
A flowy single trail closes out the route. It winds in tight curves through the forest, past clearings and scattered chalets with a view over Crans-Montana. The route is technically easy and is particularly suitable for beginners and families.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
