Diemtigtal-Tiermattiloipe
Overview
Intro
The Diemtigtal cross-country skiing trail makes its way through forests, alongside ice-bound mountain streams and over snow-covered meadows. The Tiermatti trail is a part of a 22km, continuous cross-country trail network in the rear Diemtigtal valley.
Description
The Tiermatti trail winds its way through the valley floor of the rear Diemtigtal valley, a regional nature park of national significance. The route begins at the Geissboden school in Schwenden (start and car park) near the Grimmialp Kurhaus, where those seeking recuperation used to travel from far and wide to take the waters at the iron and calcium-rich spring. The circular trail can also be started from the Tiermatti.
The Tiermatti trail leads over level and technically easy terrain. It makes its way in part over the Balmigraben scree and past the farms of the Thiermatten (today called Tiermatti) and traverses the area of a dried-up lake – the Seeboden. The return journey from Tiermatti to Schwenden affords magnificent views of the valley’s end and the impressive massif of the Spillgerten and the Seehoren.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
