Overview
Intro
The route around the Euregio capital of Basel explores a triangle of three countries, their landscapes, culinary delicacies and languages. An opulent feast for palate, eyes, ears, calves and heart, a truly international tour.
Description
Alsace, Black Forest and the Jura. The route circles Basel, the Euregio capital. Dinkelberg with its karst caves and scenic views, Kandern with its Railway Museum, sun-kissed Markgräflerland with its vineyards, the Rhine with its large tugboats, the Hardwald with its endless deciduous forest and the cosmopolitan industrial city of Mulhouse with 1200 houses from France’s first working-class housing estate and its legendary railway and vehicle collections.
The Canal du Rhone au Rhin with its tourist boats, lonely Sundgau with its carp ponds, the mystic, little, early Carolinian church of Saint-Martin des Champs in Oltingue, the fragrant garden of wild plants in the Rodersdorf tram loop, Baselland’s Birs and Ergolz valleys with bustling urban sprawls and last but not least, the Tafeljura with tough hills and countless cherry trees.
This tour is a triangle of three countries and their landscapes, specialities and culinary delights, languages and dialects, traffic and tavern signs, tractors and maize fields, canals and chemical plants, garden gnomes and front gardens. An opulent feast for stomach, eyes, ears, heart and calf muscles. A truly international tour!
