Emmenuferweg

On the Emmenuferweg, between Brienzer Rothorn mountain and Emmenbrücke, you enter the exceptional natural and cultural landscape of the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch. You will discover spectacular natural sights, one after the other, on the riverside path along the Waldemme and the Kleine Emme. From the starting point at the burbling Emmensprung you come across meadowlands, coves with sunny gravel banks, protected moorland biotopes and rugged ravines. The biodiversity in the area of the biosphere is unparalleled. In the wetlands and moors, you can watch dragonflies and discover rare species of plants such as orchids.

From the source of the Waldemme on the Brienzer Rothorn, you follow the path of the water, flowing slowly at times and like a raging torrent at others, through the river landscape that was formed over centuries. On every step you take, the forked streams and the river sound a bit different than before. You walk through the open river valley, across covered bridges between scattered settlements, and pass historic buildings until you reach the industrial facilities at the gates to the city of Lucerne.

Because the path is well connected to the public transportation system, the four legs of the Emmenuferweg can be completed individually. They can also be shortened, if necessary. While the first two sections along the Waldemme have more ups and downs, the second half of the tour is mostly flat. With pleasant swimming coves, playgrounds and barbecue grills, they are excellent destinations for family getaways.
