Gantrisch-Königsloipe
Overview
Intro
The name is no accident: no cross-country ski run shows off the beauty of the Gantrisch region as impressively as the Königsloipe. The peaks and ridges of the Gantrisch Range are constant companions on the first half of the trail, with the majority of the return portion running through forest.
Description
The Königsloipe trail begins right by Bern and Freiburg in Selital, amid Nature Park Gantrisch in the foothills of the Alps. After an initial ascent to the cross-country skiing center log house, the trail leads gently up and down toward the watershed. During the first section, the magnificent panoramic vista of the Bürglen, Gantrisch, and Nünenenflue is constantly in view. At the turning point there is a second climb to conquer, but your efforts are rewarded with views of the Bernese Alps and the Thun region.
The cross-country skiing trail heads back above the first half of the route, this time mostly through the forest. Inexperienced cross-country skiers should follow the “Leichte Abfahrt” (“easy descent”) signs down to the road. For all other skiers, this varied trail offers short climbs and demanding descents.
Back in Selital, you can fortify yourself with something in the local restaurant. You can also follow the trail from the watershed. It can be accessed by post bus from Schwarzenburg, Riggisberg post office, and Thurnen station.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
