Grossteilerberg Bike
Overview
Intro
A medium-to-hard bike tour which takes you through the scenic parts of the rather dispersed municipality of Giswil, including fantastic views of Sarneraatal from Grossteilerberg.
Description
The Grossteilerberg bike tour starts and finishes at Giswil Station, right beside the tourist office. As the village doesn't really have a historical centre and Giswil is a spread out place, you will find yourself surrounded by beautiful countryside after just a few minutes.
The tour sets off gently, passing the pretty Obwalden houses at the bottom of the valley before you climb Stein-Schlad-Strasse up the Grossteilerberg to Gruonholz. You then go down over (in parts) unpaved roads through the scenic woods. These old reforestation projects were planted for flood protection in the Laui catchment area. The mountain stream has already flooded the valley floor many times. Its natural basin is an ideal place to while away the hours, swim or barbecue, although it also serves as a reminder of the danger within the normally gentle waters.
Isolated old homes are remnants of the farms that were once here. When the woods clear, you enjoy a wonderful view over the Laui mountain stream and valley floor. You then follow the river at your leisure until you return to the starting point at Giswil.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
