Lavaux tour
Overview
Intro
Starting at Lutry railway station, this easy loop (310m difference in altitude over 30km) follows the Route de la Corniche. This classic route is popular with the region’s many cyclists.
Description
It passes through the Lavaux, whose 800 hectares of vineyards on the southern flank of Lake Geneva make it Switzerland’s largest contiguous wine-growing region. Its steeply raked terraces above the lake earned it an entry in the register of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2007.
The Route de la Corniche passes through the quintessential wine-growing villages of Aran, Grandvaux, Riex and Epesses before arriving at the summit at Chexbres. A level section leads to Chardonne before the descent to Vevey, home to Chaplin’s World: dedicated to the filmmaker’s life and work, this unique museum is located in the property he occupied during his twilight years.
The return leg to Lutry is level and follows the main road bordering the lake. At Chexbres, the loop can be extended towards Palézieux and Attalens.
