Loipe Trub
Overview
Intro
Cross-country skiing in the upper Emmental through the typical, scattered villages. The trail follows the Trueb river, climbing up the valley towards the Napf mountain and then through Trub to Trubschachen. From the trail, you can see Emmental farmhouses and hillsides peppered with woodland and open fields.
Description
The circular trail begins close to the center of Trub. Trub is one of the largest municipalities in the canton of Bern with around 6,200 hectares of land, about half of which is covered in woodland. Starting at the cross-country skiing center next to the Landgasthof Sternen hotel, the first part of the trail takes you uphill in the direction of the Napf mountain. Without any major climbs or descents, the trail follows the Trueb along the valley floor. This tributary of the Ilfis river drains the mountainous Napf region.
Surrounded by the rolling hills of the upper Emmental with their patchwork of woodland and open farmland, the trail takes you through the quintessential Emmental landscape dotted with houses and small villages. In the valley, there are many examples of the Emmental’s traditional wooden farmhouses with their richly decorated façades and sweeping roofs.
When you reach the old blacksmith’s workshop (Alte Schmiede), the trail turns and loops back round to Trub. A second, somewhat longer loop descends further into the valley and goes through Längengrund to the Ölibrücke bridge in Trubschachen. Trubschachen is where the Ilfis and Trueb tributaries meet, but it is most famous for being home to the cookie manufacturer Kambly. If you don’t want to ski the whole way, you can cut the tour short by taking the bus from one of the stops along the trail.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
