Panorama Bike
Overview
Intro
The Sörenberg region is an ancient moorland landscape with airy fir forests. Old Pole paths, steep gravel trails and small alp roads lead through the remote border region between Central Switzerland and the Bernese Oberland.
Description
The ninth stage of the Panorama Bike route begins in Sörenberg. It’s an unspoilt region, comprising the largest moorland in Switzerland and the karst area of the Schratteflue. The biosphere reserve has gained international importance as both areas are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Right from the start, there is a steep climb to Blattenegg. Of the 500 metres of gain in elevation, only the last stretch is on gravel, with the rest on surfaced road. Blattenegg is between the Brienzer Rothorn and the Tannhorn and offers magnificent views of the surrounding area and the Schratteflue. If you wanted to go hiking on the Rothorn, you would need to follow the steeper path up to the ridge.
Instead, continuing on your bike, you start the first descent and reach the Salwideli hotel and restaurant after just a few minutes. This is a popular destination in the Entlebuch biosphere reserve. Further down into the valley, you reach Küblisbühl and the Emme river. Rather than continuing down to the famous Kemmeribodenbad hotel and restaurant, a mule track takes you steeply upwards. The hand-sized, hewn stones are a challenge – you may need to get off and push. A leisurely stretch follows at Äbenegg to the Lombachalp restaurant. This is a good spot to take a break and enjoy nature. The landscape around the headwaters of the Emme river is stunning.
The surfaced, sometimes busy main road takes you downward on the day’s second descent. The destination for this stage is Habkern. If you don’t want to add on the next stage, you can continue down into the valley to Interlaken.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
