Parcours de la Montagnetta
Overview
Intro
Explore the forests above Grimentz on snowshoes. While the ascent affords views of St-Luc and Chandolin, the return journey promises an even more spectacular Alpine panorama with the Valais's 4,000-metre peaks as a backdrop.
Description
Places like La Pierre d'Avoin, les Tsougdires, les Luisannes, L'Irette and Orzival, whose names come from the local Patois dialect, invite you to discover the Alpine pastures around Grimentz in a different way – on snowshoes. The 9-kilometre circular trail first crosses the village before leading through the forest to the Torrent des Moulins (waterfall).
From the valley station, the road leads to the upper part of the village. The trail then ascends to Pierre d'Avoin and onward to the intersection with the Tsougdires forest road. After a stretch on the forest road, you reach the tour's highest point at 2,026 metres above sea level. Here, the trail drops off to the right, down to the Alpine pastures at Pramprilett and onward to the Torrent de Mayoux. Turn around at the brook. In good weather, a detour with a picnic at Alpage d'Orzival is well worth it. The described trail past Les Ziettes then leads to the cross-country ski trail.
As you continue in the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of the forest, the forest path offers magnificent views down into the valley before you return to Grimentz. Back at the destination, the well-preserved village is worthwhile. The narrow, car-free main street is lined with typical, sun-baked wooden houses, barns and storage huts.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
