Description
This snowshoe hike takes you from the Alpe des Chaux at the foot of the flattening Diablerets mountain range past the charming hamlet of Taveyanne with its wooden shingle roofs. Following the course of the Gryonne river, you pass some sleepy alpine huts and cross quiet streams winding their way under the snow.
The route leaves from the holiday village of Alpe des Chaux, which is located below the Chaux Ronde. The summit of the 2,014-metre-high mountain is the last of the ending range of the Diablerets massif. You start at the Combe du Scex stop and first cross the ski slope, so caution is advised here. Leaving the slope behind, you enter the forest and find yourself on the edge of the Grand Muveran nature reserve. It offers a valuable habitat for rare animal and plant species and is an oasis of peace. Around the course of the Gryonne river, numerous streams and waterways characterise the area and lend the valley its unspoilt character.
Shortly afterwards, the path leads to a clearing where the hamlet of Taveyanne can be spotted. Even from a distance, the alpine huts covered with wooden shingles are clearly recognisable in the middle of the sunny slope. The impressive Diablerets massif with the Tête Ronde, Sommet des Diablerets and Le Dôme towers in the background.
From Taveyanne, the hike leads down to the Gryonne. Following the course of the river, you pass sleepy huts and scattered settlements. Forests and meadows alternate, and quiet streams hide under the snow. You can stop for refreshments at the restaurant Le Verneyre with its cosy, wood-panelled interior. Here, the winter hiking trail joins the cross-country ski track. The last three kilometres are covered on the cross-country circuit, always with a view of the Dents du Midi peaks.
