Peil
Overview
Intro
A varied round trip into the Vals Peil valley. The trail takes you through the Peil forest and then over sunny mountain pastures on the walk way back to Vals.
Description
From the starting point of Vals Post Office bike through the village of Vals to the valley station of the Vals cable car. From there, take the road up to where the first trail section begins with a steep slope up through the Peil forest. When you get to the small forest chapel the road becomes a little flatter, and the cool forest offers some respite. The climb on a dirt road to the «Bodahus» hut is again steep, however a reward of fantastic views of the Peil mountains and the Valser Horn peak makes the climb well worth it. Then take the path downhill through the lush meadows to reach Peil where the Peil kiosk is a good place to take a short break. The remaining route begins with a flat section, followed by a gradient to the «Tschifera» meadow. The road is bumpy and full of gradients. After the «Tschifera» meadow the descent begins into the village across the «Uf dr Matta» and «Aberschhus» mountain pastures on a hiking trail that requires some skill. From «Aberschhus» on the goods road back to Vals. Past the districts of Rufena and Mura back to the base station.
Many attractions such as the Peil valley, the chapel of St. Michael in Peil, the «Geissalp Sust» in Peil, the Peil brook and the historic mountain pastures such as «Tschifera» and «Uf dr Matta» are unique experiences on this route.
