Pfälzerhütte Bike
Overview
Intro
This varied mountain bike tour leads from Steg through the Valünatal Valley and up to the Pfälzerhütte. It offers sporting challenges, impressive views and, as a reward, a cosy break on the Bettlerjoch.
Description
At 2,108 metres elevation, the Pfälzerhütte is the highest mountain biking destination in the Principality of Liechtenstein. But there’s some tough pedalling ahead before you reach it: The tour starts in Steg, a charming mountain village on the west-facing side of the Saminatal Valley. From here, the wide gravel path first rises gently alongside the Valünerbach stream through the idyllic Valünatal Valley. The Alp Valüna hut is the perfect place to take a break: It offers catering in the summer and various Alpine products can be bought there.
After the Alpine hut, the route rises noticeably. It gets particularly challenging after the Alp Grisch huts – here, physical fitness and riding technique are needed, which is why some mountain biking experience is necessary for this tour. From the eighth kilometre, the route flattens out a little again. You have magnificent views of the surrounding mountain landscape throughout the climb.
After reaching the Bettlerjoch, the cosy restaurant at the Pfälzerhütte invites you to take a well-earned break. The descent to Steg is on the same unsurfaced road and offers a thrilling Alpine cycling experience.
If you want something even more physically challenging, you can start the tour down at the Rhine, at around 450 metres elevation, and first tackle some 700 additional metres of elevation gain on a steep surfaced road with numerous bends before arriving in Steg.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
