Promenade du Littoral de Morges
Overview
Intro
The route leads through the lively old town of Morges, the Parc de l'Indépendance and then past the castle to the picturesque harbour. With an impressive view of the lake and the mountain panorama with the Mont Blanc as a backdrop, the route continues along the lakeshore to Préverenges.
Description
From the station, the route leads first to the historic centre of Morges, founded by Louis of Savoy in 1286. Along the Grand Rue, the pedestrian zone in the heart of the old town with numerous shops and restaurants, you reach the Parc de l'Indépendance. The park is located directly on Lake Geneva and is ideal for a rest. In spring, for the Tulip Festival, over 100,000 flowers are blooming here.
The path leads past the Château de Morges with its four mighty round towers. The town's landmark has now been converted into a cultural and leisure centre and unites five museums under one roof. The square building was commissioned by Louis of Savoy in the 13th century and is considered a successful example of a "carré savoyard", the square fortifications of medieval Savoy.
Along Lake Geneva at the Igor Stravinsky Quais, between the church (Temple) and Vertou Park, the promenade stretches over one and a half kilometres. Every year, 2,250 dahlias are planted in this beautiful area, and from July to October they delight the numerous flower lovers, visitors and pedestrians. After the Parc de Vertou and a loop past the renaturalised estuary of the brook "Le Bief", the path leads back along the lake promenade and into the old town of Morges. You pass the Reformed Church, built in the Baroque style and now part of the Swiss Inventory of Cultural Heritage of National Importance, before the route ends again at Morges railway station.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
