Rhône trail in Obergoms
Intro
Goms is situated where the Rhône still resembles more of a wide stream than a river. The wide valley floor in Obergoms is not only suitable for agriculture, it is also a wonderful place for sports enthusiasts to show off their skills.
Description
Hiking, biking, cycling – and in winter Goms becomes a paradise for cross-country skiers. The variety of sporting activities on offer is virtually endless. The hike from Oberwald to Ernen is like a long stroll. Unchallenging, with plenty of time to simply enjoy the magnificent landscape, the route passes picturesque villages and hamlets. The gushing waters of the Rhône lead the way.
Oberwald – Ulrichen – Reckingen – Niederwald – Ernen
From the southern side of Oberwald railway station, the route first takes you across the bridge to the left bank of the Rhône. In Ulrichen, the route continues towards Nufenen Pass before branching off to the right. Near Münster, you head over the airstrip to the playground, barbecue area and tennis courts. The district of Überrotte is separated from the rest of the village of Reckingen by a wooden bridge. After the hamlet of Bodme in Blitzingen, the route switches to the sunny side of the valley. At Niederwald railway station, the route branches off to the left over the Rhône. The path then passes the Mühlebach and Mosshubel hill before reaching Ernen.
