Intro
The varied Ellhorn hike offers surprising views of the villages on both sides of the Rhine and of the surrounding mountains. The flowering pastures in the Elltal valley are just as charming as the paths high above the Rhine.
Description
Heading towards Ellhorn from Mäls, the path is flat until you reach the forest. After that the path climbs to gain altitude taking some bends then crossing the Ellwiesen pasture with its botanical alpine jewels, with plants like Fire lilies, Gentian and Turk’s cap. The path continues to gradually climb until it reaches the highest point of the hike. Here over the vertical cliffs is an amazing view straight down to the Rhine and the Fläscher Au. Next, we will follow a steep mountain path through the Moxentobel ravine down to the Rhine valley. A hidden path will lead us under the Ellhorn, along the Rhine and back to Mäls.
Tip: Coming back from the Ellwiesen pastures along the marked footpath through the Moxentobel ravine to Fläscher Au and Freia Mountain to Mäls.
