Saanenmöser-Schönried-Winterwanderweg
Overview
Intro
After leaving Saanenmöser, winter walkers reach Schönried via a hiking trail with forests on either side. The view on the Horneggli and Schönried is the highlight of this popular route.
Description
The charming chalet village of Saanenmöser (1,270 metres above sea level) connects the Saanenland and the Simmental. The pass on which it is located gives you a clear view over to Rüblihorn and Gummfluh and up to Les Diablerets with the glacier ski area. In between you can see the gently rolling hills of the Saanenland which you will be crossing while walking along this easy scenic route to Schönried.
After setting off from the Saanenmöser train station, you cross the Moos plain before climbing up to the Wittere plateau. There are delightful snow-covered forests on either side and you will want to stop and admire the panoramic view of the Simmental and the neighbouring villages.
The route then continues along the lower slope of the Horneggli to Schönried. Here, you cross the ski slope where skiers zoom their way downhill and where up-and-coming young skiers on the «Mike von Grünigen Run» emulate their local idol.
The view of the surrounding panorama with the Horneggli and Schönried is the highlight of this popular route. It’s now time to return to where you started, either by mountain railway or on foot.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
