Schlittelweg Dros–Lohn
Overview
Intro
Sledging fun in the Beverin nature park high above the Schams valley. You need your own transport to get up the mountain but it’s worth it: in Dros, a wonderful view of Piz Curvér or Surettahorn awaits you. The trail winds its way through the forest down into the beautiful Lohn mountain valley.
Description
The Schamserberg lies on Piz Beverin’s south-eastern flank. The sledge section ends at the PostBus stop in the idyllic mountain village of Lohn, the highest municipality in the Schams valley. However, before starting the fun part you have to make your way to the top on foot. On the way to the start, you go up the mountain to Dros, a settlement in a low Alpine pasture. Take a second to catch your breath and enjoy the magnificent view of Piz Curvér, Piz la Tschera, Surettahorn and many other peaks.
On the run into the valley your view will be focused on the track. Its way leads from open ground first into the clear yet ever thickening forest. The descent is regular with a few gentle curves. At this point, the faint smell of meat suddenly fills your nostrils. Winter is barbecue season in the tepee tent right next to the track and it’s worth stopping off. In the second half of the descent there is a narrower S curve leading towards Lohn.
It is also worth making a detour into the heart of the village where Romansh (Sutsilvan) is primarily spoken. The houses and stables here are packed tightly together. The church is really special as its towers were built in two different eras.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
