Schlittelweg Kerenzerberg
Overview
Intro
One of the region’s longest toboggan runs: over five kilometres long, it alternates between rapid forest descents, bends and comfortable sections across meadows. Along the way, there are magnificent views of Lake Walen, the Churfirsten mountains and all the way to the Zurich Oberland.
Description
Sledging fun with fantastic views high above Lake Walen: the toboggan run on the Kerenzerberg is one of the longest in Eastern Switzerland. Considered a classic descent by connoisseurs, it’s particularly popular with families. Those looking for peace and quiet also appreciate the high plateau in northern Glarus region, which is never overcrowded and very easy to reach.
The run starts a few steps away from the Habergschwänd mountain station: beginning on open terrain, sledgers enter the forest after about half a kilometre. Lined at first by pines, then by deciduous trees, the well-groomed track winds its way towards Filzbach. The pace quickens at times through woodlands before slowing again on the way across meadows. Depending on snow conditions, the sledge may need to be pulled for a short distance in a few places.
There may be quite a few bends along the way, but the route is not too fast. Just as well, because flying snow would only spoil the view. Time and again, sledgers have a clear sight of the impressive Churfirsten mountain range that rises almost vertically above Lake Walen.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
