Intro
This charming snowshoe trail passes by idyllic hamlets and the Camana huts, which seem to be strung on a silver thread. The view stretches into the distance throughout the hike: to the striking Piz Beverin peak, the Bruschghorn, the Glas Pass and the far end of the Safien Valley.
Description
The snowshoe trail starts at the Innercamana turnoff. After following the road towards Camana for about 50 metres, hikers turn left into the forest. The trail winds its way through the woods on a comfortable incline, soon emerging from the forest and passing over wide slopes up to Innercamana. From there, it ascends in broad sweeps to the impressive Camana huts. These monuments to Walser mountain farming stand in line as if strung on a silver thread. Moving from hut to hut, hikers enjoy a wonderful view of the Piz Beverin, the Bruschghorn and the Glas Pass. Until around 1875, this was one of the main routes between the Safien Valley and the neighbouring valleys.
Towards the end of the Camana huts, the relatively steep descent to Camanaboda begins. Just like Innercamana, Camanaboda is a typical hamlet with the kind of sun-burnt houses found in scattered Walser settlements. The new, large stables also found here reflect the dramatic change in agriculture. In the past, the Walsers moved from stable to stable with their animals and only ever spent a short time close to home with them. Before the final descent to the Mura postbus stop, hikers can enjoy home-made delicacies at the Hotel Camana.
