Intro

Sunny and with a view of the Rhone Valley: The snowshoe trail from the Rosswald mountain station climbs around 300 metres in altitude to the Fleschboden restaurant. Over a wide plain, through an open forest and past chalets, the easy tour ends back at the starting point.

Description

Rosswald combines alpine calm with far-reaching views: Situated 1,800 metres above the Rhone Valley, the car-free village has an expansive network of paths and trails. The snowshoe tour described connects Rosswald mountain station to Fleschbode. The path first leads along the edge of the forest up to Alp Rosswald and passes below the chapel of Our Lady of Good Counsel. This was built in 1713 and was once used as a place of worship by Alpine herdsmen.

After a short section alongside the ski slopes, the route runs through the Saflischwald forest and passes the old chalets of Alp Rosswald. A former military road climbs through the open larch forest to the blue run, which leads directly to the highest point of the tour at the Fleschboden restaurant. You can take a break on the sun terrace with a view of the summit.

The way back descends on the other side over the large area next to the ski lift and then through a stretch of woodland. This is followed by a short, steep, zig-zagging descent. The section through open forest gives clear views of the Glishorn, the Rhone Valley, the Gantertal valley, the Wasenalp and the Simplon Pass.

Running between holiday houses and chalets, the route ends back at the mountain station. The location of the route is usually sunny, particularly the descent. With suitable equipment, it’s also easy for beginners to negotiate.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
