Senda Sursilvana
Overview
Intro
A stage full of (cultural) history. Famous frescoes in Waltensburg church; in Panix commemoration of the invasion by the weakened Suworow army in October 1799; interesting megaliths at the church in Falera.
Description
Surselva means “above the forest”. It is a region, district and mountain valley all at the same time. The place name Breil/Brigels is a Celtic derivation and means mountain or hill. The official language of the community is still Romansh or Surselvian. It is spoken by over 80% of the local population.
The hike begins in the heart of the village of Breil/Brigels. If you had been traveling for a while, the green-blue glow of Lag da Breil would make you want to cool off in the water. But swimming is prohibited there in any case because the lake is used to generate energy. So, you continue across fields to Waltensburg without jumping into the water. The traditional Biohotel Ucliva is also located near the cable car station, where you can pamper yourself with local organic products. A short climb and you reach Andiast after a good hour and a half.
You continue on a gravel road deep into the Val da Pigniu. After another hour, you cross the Schmuer stream. This rises from the Fluaz Glacier below Hausstocks and Chli Ruchi. It flows into the Lag da Pigniu (Lake Panix) reservoir via a waterfall and some rock steps and flows out again to the dam wall, which is only about 500 metres away.
Past the village of Panix, which has around 30 inhabitants and is part of the municipality of Ilanz/Glion, the path soon branches off to the left. A path leads up to Darpagaus. With a superb view over the Surselva valley and the mountains opposite, you hike on a wide gravel road to the end of this stage in Siat.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
