Intro

On trails from Disentis to Andermatt. A mountain path connects Caischavedra with the Bostg panoramic mountain. With a variety of panoramic views, an exciting trail winds its way towards Sedrun, where the train to the Oberalp Pass awaits. From here, a rapid descent runs past the reservoir and attractive alpine pastures. From Nätschen it is time to head for the pass road.

Description

The landmark of Disentis is the Benedictine monastery with the dual-towered church, which was founded in around 720 AD. In the part of the village around the monastery, you can see the multi-storey stone aristocratic houses, which are unusual for the region, some with painted facades. From the village of Acletta, you take the cable car to Caischavedra. On the single trail to the Piz Plaun Grond (Bostg), it is important to be cautious as this is the Senda Pauli, where hikers also go. The trail is well-known for its variety of flowers. It is a pleasant journey by bike and requires a great deal of technical skill in some sections.

Once you arrive at the treeless viewing mountain of Bostg (Piz Plaun Grond), a superb all-round view opens up: Piz Ault and Piz Acletta tower up in the north, on the other side is the Piz Medel with its glacier. Still with an attractive view, a flowing descent leads to Mises dil Bostg and then on a very varied trail to Sedrun.

The train takes you to the Oberalp Pass. Far from an ocean, the only lighthouse in the Alps stands here. It symbolises the source of the Rhine, which rises nearby. The ten-metre-high tourist attraction is a replica of a real lighthouse that once stood in Rotterdam at the mouth of the Rhine. The trail starts at the Oberalp reservoir and then leads along the right bank of the lake. You can see the rugged rock faces in the Schneehüenerstock area from here.

At the end of the lake, the trail switches to the left side of the valley, past the alpine pastures of Seeplangg and Schöni. You gradually approach the hamlet of Nätschen. There are a few places here to stop for refreshments. From the Nätschen you can see the Ursern Valley, with its many green areas, the Gurschenwald forest and the striking Bäzberg on the right side of the valley. At the very back of the valley, you can see the Muttenhorn which is in the Furka area. From Nätschen to Andermatt, the trail switches to the pass road. Following bend after bend, you work your way down into the valley to the village centre of Andermatt.
