Strade Bianche di Simmental
Overview
Intro
An amazing tour with a little known 18-km ascent and an unpaved section.
Description
From the start at Schönried railway station, you first embark on a 30-km descent through the magnificent Simmental to Oey. From there, it’s an 18-km ride up the Diemtigtal to Meienberg, which is only known to local cyclists.
To crown this ascent of 1,200m through breath-taking alpine scenery to the summit (1,853 metres above sea level), a short section of dirt road awaits you, which is called "Strada Biancha" in the world of cycling – a reference to similar roads featured in a professional bike race in Italy.
The descent to Grubenwald is steep and narrow and also includes an unpaved section. Caution! At Zweisimmen, you are back in the Simmental and then continue on a small road via Schönried to Saanenmöser.
This tour is also possible in the opposite direction.
Tip from the Grand Tours Project
The dirt roads can be safely ridden by conventional road bikes. For additional comfort, the tire pressure should be slightly lower than usual.
