Description
A union of waters, the confluence of the Aare and Rhine, the Klingnauer reservoir warms Döttingen grapes and the striking synagogue is an eye-catcher in Endingen. In flat, once rural Wehntal, the bustle of Zurich’s outer areas slowly makes itself felt.
Within hearing distance of the airport, the route crosses the Neeracher Riet, a shrinking marshland with spotted crakes and highland cattle in moor grass. In Bülach the 340-year-old Rathaus (town hall) with its splendid timber-framed façade makes an impression. Over the Dättenberg down to the Töss, along flat fields and through suburbs. The route just touches the northern edge of Winterthur, but not without making a short detour to the Technorama.
Then on through the middle of Frauenfeld, Thurgau’s main city, and over the Thur to Pfyn, where the Romans passed through and people lived in pile dwellings, most recently in the 2007 Swiss TV series. With quite a few drops of sweat up over the remote Seerücken, then a flicker of light, the attractive Untersee invites you to Steckbornein.
