First section of the Europaweg trail. Starting with a steep climb to the ridge, then with superb views along the steep flanks of the Mischabel on the spectacular high-level trail to the Europahütte (hut). Sensational panorama dominated by the Weisshorn.
Description
The mountain village of Grächen is located on a sunny terrace high above the Matter Valley. The main square with the church exudes a great deal of charm and also marks the start of this stage. You hike along the Bineri Suone through a stunning coniferous forest with a superb view of the mountains opposite. This was built in 1603 and is 3.6 kilometres long. After crossing the Riedbach, it is worth taking a look back at the peaks around the Bietschhorn. The varied path to the Laubertschugge is a hike to enjoy. Then begins the more physically demanding part.
A short, steep climb is followed by a descent of more than 400 metres. While the route below Obri Taflüe runs behind a waterfall, on the opposite side is the much larger Tummigbach waterfall.
The path now continues to Herbriggen. The long and steep climb goes on past the large dam. This leads up to the Geisstriftbächji, through a wooded area, via zigzag paths, steps and sections with safety ropes.
The last part of the hike offers a great view of the Bis Glacier, the Weisshorn and the Matter Valley. Not far from the destination for this stage, the route meets the Birbach. It is unbelievable how much water flows into the valley from the Hobärg Glacier. The water flows into the Mediterranean from here, via the Matter, the Vispa and the Rhone.
Now comes the last 100 metres uphill on the Europaweg trail, before you reach the Europahütte hut a little further on, after a total of 1,750 meters upwards and 1,100 meters downwards.
