Trail Run Val Ferret
Overview
Intro
Wooden chalets and the feeling of wilderness in a narrow river valley make this run from La Fouly special. The views up to Mont Dolent and the Grandes Jorasses as well as down into Val Ferret are spectacular.
Description
Grassy hillsides roll up from the Swiss side of the Val Ferret beneath dominating rocky towers. The steady climb begins from quaint La Fouly at nearly 1,000 metres to the Petit Col Ferret. After the gain, you cross the Italian border for just long enough to reach the Grand Col Ferret. Between the passes, the views sweep into the famous Val Ferret towards Courmayeur on the classic Tour du Mont Blanc. Re-entering Switzerland after just a few steps in Italy, the descent follows the TMB route to Alpage de la Peule, a hut known for its cheese production, yurts and straw beds. It’s ideal for a brief stop before the short but steep climb through the Vernes du Mont Percé. The angling trail then drops deep into the valley before crossing the river, turning back to follow the Dranse de Ferret and returning to La Fouly.
Tip from ALPSinsight: Enjoy the solitude and discover a hidden corner of the Swiss Alps. La Fouly is surprisingly quiet considering the TMB route passes right through the village.
