Intro
Tschuggen is a popular view point to enjoy the magnificent panorama on the mountains around Arosa. Whoever wants to delocate from the mountain to the valley, had better do it on two runners – past the legendary Tschuggenhut and the heritage-protected Bergkirchli.
Description
Arosa is the highes situated settlement in Schanfigg. Once known as climatic health-resort, the holiday destination rich in tradition is since 2014 part of the connected skiresort Arosa Lenzerheide with 225 slope kilometres. In the centre of it all, lays Tschuggen, a part of the central Plessur mountains and the starting point of the short sledging trail to Innerarosa.
From the popular view point, one enjoys a nice panorama on to the Arosa mountains, including Schafrügg, Aroser Rothorn and Erzhorn, which is pictured on the arms of the municipality. The sledging trails leads first in south western directions, past the astrophysical observatory, which was used from the ETH Zürich from 1939 to 2002. Afterwards, the sledges will come closer to the legendary Tschuggenhut, mainly known for the Après-Ski-Partys. More tranquile is the scenery at the next prominent building along the trail: the historical Bergkirchi Arosa. Completed 1493, it is the oldest remaining building of Arosa. A mini version of this house of God is represented at the Swiss Miniature in Melide (TI).
Between Tschuggenhut and church, there is a branch, after which one can either continue to Inneraorsa – or turn back to the cable car, which leads back to the start of the sledging trail, or one goes further to the Tschuggentor.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
