Schneeschuhtrail Grauberg
Overview
Intro
This trail turns the mountains upside down: the Grauberg snowshoe trail clearly shows how older rock strata edged their way above younger rocks during the mountain formation.
Description
From the starting point at the Nagens Sura mountain station, you travel north-west towards Ofen and the Laaxerstöckli. The panorama is unique and includes the Tschingelhörner and the lower and upper Segnesboden along the way. This route runs along the edge of the Tectonic Arena Sardona, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2008. The strange and clearly visible line along the rock face of Piz Sardona marks the Glarus Overthrust, a phenomenon of world interest. Here, older rock strata have edged their way above younger rocks. No other place on earth illustrates the origins of mountains so clearly.
At the end of the tour, there are two options: either take the mountain railway back down into the valley from Nagens Sura or hike a little further along the edge of the ski slope to the Berghaus Nagens restaurant. Here, you can fortify yourself while enjoying the magnificent panorama and then take the gondola back down into the valley.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
