Overview
Intro
The 14 kilometres from Innertkirchen to Engstlenalp are varied and convoluted in terms of scenery: you ride through dense woodland and the Gental, one of Central Switzerland’s remotest valleys. After a gentle finale, the view at the top (alt. 1835 m) reaches as far as the Titlis.
Description
This particular dead-end route up to Engstlenalp leaves on the left-hand side of the Susten Pass road shortly after Innertkirchen.
The 14-kilometre route is tough to start with: the road meanders steeply through dense woodland. The reward comes a few kilometres later with the ride through the Gental, one of the remotest – and prettiest – valleys in Central Switzerland. Take advantage of the easy cycling here to prepare for the final six or seven kilometres of relatively steep pedalling to the top. The route all the way to the end remains convoluted in terms of scenery: velvety moss gives way to dry grass, lush trees to rugged evergreens.
And there are the snowy Wendenstöcke peaks, greeting arrivals to Engstlenalp at alt. 1835 m. However, before making yourself comfortable in the sun on the terrace of the eponymous hotel, ride on a few more metres to Lake Engstlen, from where you will be able to admire the Titlis.
