You will reach the culminating point of this hike, the Hohe Winde, via the Vogelberg and the third Jura chain. It reveals stunning views towards Thal Nature Park, the Alps, Vosges Mountains and Black Forest, until the trail winds its way back into the valley to the charming Beinwil Abbey.
Description
The pleasant hike to Beinwil begins at the gondola station in Wasserfallen. After just a few steps, even before you pass the mountain restaurant, you enter the Thal Nature Park, nestled in the rolling hills of the Jura between Weissenstein and Wasserfallen. While the region has a low population density, it offers extensive nature recreation areas. In the Middle Ages, the entrances to the ravines were protected. The castles and fortresses are proof of it. Raw materials, such as iron ore, wood and water were used to build up various industrial branches.
On a beautiful path you climb the first 300 altitude meters up to the viewpoint at Vogelberg Mountain. When the weather is clear, the Alps and the Napf area in front of them appear close enough to touch. It takes a little over 1.5 hours to get to Passwang. In the 18th century, the historic pass (1204 m) between Balsthal and Reigoldswil in the Schwarzbubenland was ill-suited for horse-drawn wagons because of its sharp incline.
The walk continues to Chratteneggli via gently rising forest roads and paths, followed by a steady ascent past Restaurant Erzberg to Hohe Winde Mountain. This viewpoint is at the same altitude as Vogelberg and offers great views of Basel and Germany. It takes just under four hours to get here. Now you continue downhill, first along a path and later on a forest road heading for the destination. Beinwil in the Canton Solothurn is located on the Passwang road. To this day, the farming community is still mainly engaged in agriculture, milk production and particularly in the cultivation of fruit crops, primarily cherries.
