Description
This bicycle tour starts in the town of Sarnen. Its numerous sights bear witness to a lively history. Stately homes and small businesses form the heart of the Flecken neighborhood. Near the attractive village center stands Sarnen's beautiful old town hall. In fact, it has been representing the whole canton of Obwalden for nearly 600 years. This is where they keep the «white book of Sarnen» – the oldest surviving book chronicling the history of the founding of Switzerland.
If you follow Sarnen's portion of the Aa River, you'll find the nature conservation area at Lake Wichel. Here you can observe a variety of waterfowl. You can also see the little Dunschtig Chapel, which has room for about 20 people. It was built after the big cattle plague of 1779. As you continue toward Alpnach you'll pass the airport – you can't miss it. On hot summer days you can cool off at the beach at Lake Alpnach before heading back to Sarnen.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
