No desire for strenuous ascents? The hiking trail for this winter is a real insider tip for you, then: it is sunny and perfect for all those who prefer a short, not very demanding tour. Hiking downhill almost consistenly takes you even past the cantonal border between Berne and Lucerne.
The winter hiking trail starts on Marbachegg, easily accessible in ten minutes by gondola from Marbach. That's when the highest point of the tour is reached since this path cosistently goes downhill. At the beginning of the hike, the sun terrace in the mountain guesthouse Marbachegg welcomes you for refreshments. The view of the landscape of the Schrattenfluh mountain range, the Emmental spring area in Kemmeriboden, Bumbach with the striking Hohgant and the Bernese Alpine peaks are truly unique.
In the first section you pass the ski slope, where you have to be careful. Continue past the reservoir to Schottenhof Lochsitli. Here you are still in the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch. This site of 400 square kilometers is home to the largest and most numerous moorlands in the country as well as to the animal and plant world of national importance.
From the «Wild West of Lucerne» you soon cross the cantonal border. The journey continues in the Bernese community of Schangnau. This is where Beat Feuz, ski world champion and Olympic medal winner, has his roots. On an asphalt road you walk past several idyllic farms. Hohgant, Schangnau's local mountain seems within reach. Soon you reach your destination in Bumbach. Directly in front of the cosy restaurant Alpenrose, the post bus stops, which takes you back to Marbach.
