Wispile-Gsteig-Winterwanderweg
Overview
Intro
With the Horneggli, Eggli and Wasserngrat in view, this panoramic route takes you over meadows and past idyllic sections of forest from the Wispile down to the historic village of Gsteig at the foot of the Col du Pillon.
Description
Take the cable car from the car-free chalet village of Gstaad up to the Wispile mountain station. Here, Gstaad’s local mountain attracts not only with its superb slopes, but also with the breathtaking panorama it affords – and with its beautifully groomed winter hiking trails.
This panoramic trail starts off fairly flat as it follows the broad ridge of the Wispile to the Chrine Pass. From here, this route, which is also used by tobogganers, takes you further down the valley to Gsteig. The partly steep trail winds its way over meadows and past idyllic sections of forest. The Spitzhorn, Sanetsch, Eggli, Wasserngrat and other mountain peaks tower up into the heavens.
Gsteig (1,200 metres above sea level) at the foot of the Col du Pillon marks the end point of this winter hiking route. This heritage-protected village is located in the deep valley incision formed by the Saane River and is surrounded by the Diablerets massif and the Sanetsch area. The listed church here and the neighbouring Hotel Bären with its elaborately painted façade are among the most frequently photographed typically Swiss locations. You return to Gstaad by Postbus.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
