Gantrisch: a hike with a view along the panorama trail

The Gantrisch Panoramaweg, which lies between the cities of Bern, Fribourg and Thun, is a particularly pleasant hike: in addition to fresh air and exercise, the trail offers wonderful views of its surroundings. In the south, the Stockhorn mountain range – Nünenenfluh, Gantrisch, Bürglen and Ochsen – is but a stone’s throw away, while in the north, views extend over the Schwarzenburg region and the Bernese Mittelland. The amazing mountains of Central Switzerland and the Bernese Oberland lie to the east, and to the west, Lake Schwarzsee, the Western Alps and the three lakes of Biel, Murten and Neuchâtel are visible.

Oberbütschel: switch off and relax on this leisurely trail

The “Musse:um” circular trail invites you to unwind, recover and enjoy doing nothing. The 5.3-kilometre route includes plenty of wooden benches along the way on which you can take a moment to sit and simply enjoy your surroundings. Those looking to relax can also try some of the different recommended exercises, which should help you to release tension, calm your breathing and improve your perception. Anyone who can get a sought-after space on the “Do Sweet Nothing” bench to look out at a tinted landscape through a blue or yellow glass window is on the road to complete relaxation.

Rüschegg: a buzz of adrenalin at lofty heights in Gantrisch suspension rope park

In Gantrisch suspension rope park, old and young alike can swing through the air between golden-yellow treetops, climb trees and endeavor to keep their balance on shaky suspension bridges. Of the 14 courses, three are suitable for children aged five and up – and bigger children and adults who dare to go higher can ride the 100-metre-long zip wire from the highest suspension rope park platform in Switzerland. Taking a break from climbing doesn’t have to be boring either, thanks to a play area where children can let off steam to their hearts’ content. When tummies start to rumble, choose between the restaurant or one of the barbecue spots.

Oberbütschel: Restaurant Bütschelegg

Panoramic views of the Bernese Alps are a perfect backdrop for Restaurant Bütschelegg, which sits majestically up on high on the Rüeggisberg. Dishes on the menu range from the traditional, such as crispy rösti and juicy cordon bleu, to the exotic, such as sumptuous spring rolls and different curries. Once you’ve had your fill, enjoy a half-hour stroll to Uecht observatory. Provided the skies are clear, the observatory opens its doors every Wednesday evening to visitors, who come to gaze in wonder at a starry sky, the likes of which can only be seen from remote locations.

Guggisberg: Hotel Restaurant Sternen Guggisberg

Hotel Restaurant Sternen Guggisberg is the only restaurant in the small village – and has been since 1448. While the building itself has changed greatly over the years, its beautiful view of the Fribourg Alps is just the same as it always was. Such changes include its nine cosy yet modern double rooms and panorama room, which belongs to the hotel’s restaurant. There, guests can savour seasonal dishes and popular classics while admiring views of the countryside through the huge window, or sit out on the terrace to soak up rays of autumnal sunshine.
