Overview

Intro

The frozen waterfall is a winter challenge for climbers. And Gstaad offers a number of icy obstacles to really put them to the test.

Enthusiastic ice climbers will find their next challenge at the Glacier 3000 ski area above the Col du Pillon or at the Lauenensee lake. Depending on the ice conditions, there are various climbing sites to choose from in Gstaad between November and March: the Col du Pillon at the waterfall in Les Diablerets; the Geltenschuss or the Tungelschuss waterfalls at the Lauenensee lake and the Burgfälle waterfall in Gsteig. With the right equipment, nothing stands in the way of an adrenaline kick on the icy mountain walls. Ice climbing is suitable for trained climbers and is only possible when accompanied by a local mountain guide. If you don’t have your own climbing equipment, you can rent a climbing harness, helmet, crampons, ice axe and crampon-compatible climbing shoes from the Alpine Centre headquarters for a fee.
