Winter excursions in Thun

The historic elevated pavements of Thun’s Old Town, which offer shopping on multiple levels, are unique in Europe.

Schadau Castle was built between 1846 and 1854 for the Neuchâtel banker Denis Alfred de Rougemont. The location of the castle, on the southern banks of Lake Thun where the River Aare flows out of the lake, and with its views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, is almost as attractive as the architecture itself.

Thun Fun Land is the first indoor children’s playground in the canton of Bern. This colourful park is a safe place for the children to play.

The Thun Panorama was produced in 1814 and was the first Swiss work of its type and the world's oldest surviving example of its genre. The artist Marquard Wocher sketched the 360° panorama while sitting on a roof in the middle of the Old Town of Thun.
