Winter excursions: Art and culture museums

Since September 2015, LAC (Lugano Arte e Cultura) has been an impressive platform for contemporary creativity from southern Switzerland. The building by Ticino architect Ivano Gianola offers visitors art across 2500 square metres and a modern theatre and concert hall with space for 1000 guests.

The IPFO House of Photography on Kirchgasse is a venue for internationally renowned photography exhibitions that are designed to inspire and delight people from near and far.

The municipality of Beromünster is also known as the home of Swiss radio, because Radio Beromünster has ruled the airwaves of German-speaking Switzerland since the 1930s.. You can find out more about the radio’s history by hiking along the Beromünster Radio Trail.

St. Gallen has so much to offer when it comes to museums. Attractive, internationally renowned exhibitions and countless historic collections make for a diverse museum landscape. The open art Museum is particularly worth a visit.

As one of the few museums in Europe dedicated to this art form, the paper mill preserves historical techniques at an authentic site. Participants are shown these traditional techniques and given the opportunity to have a go at making paper and printing themselves.

The Viticulture Museum "Torculum" presents a fascinating exhibition that allows visitors to see the work and events inside and outside the Torculum. At the same time, the Viticultural Museum is a place that is ideal for social events.

The Verbier 3-D Foundation Sculpture Park is a free, year-round open-air museum at 2,300 meters in the Swiss Alps. It showcases contemporary art created during artist residencies, blending seamlessly with the alpine landscape between La Chaux and Les Ruinettes list stations above Verbier.

The Treasure Chamber of the Principality of Liechtenstein is located in the heart of the Liechtenstein capital, Vaduz. The little museum exhibits unique treasures that are closely associated with Liechtenstein and that cannot be found anywhere else in this form and combination.

20 km from Lausanne, this single-subject museum includes a collection of almost a hundred works illustrating Eugène Burnand’s production. Along with Ferdinand Hodler, this native of Moudon was one of the most highly recognised and well-known Swiss artists of his time, in his native country and elsewhere.

The Cathedral Treasure Museum comprises two groups of objects: The actual cathedral treasure and the cycle of murals depicting death from 1543, both of which are exhibited on two floors and are a source of fascination to visitors of all ages as well as a unique resource for experts. The location of the museum, the baroque Episcopal Castle in Chur, is a cultural monument of national importance and also one of the most important secular buildings in Graubünden.
