Winter excursions: Pass road

The Simplon Pass connects Switzerland with Italy. In the midst of wild high mountain landscapes, it invites you to hike through lonely high moors, along quiet mountain lakes and on historic trade routes.

The Grimsel Pass links the Hasli Valley in the Bernese Oberland with Goms in Valais. The pass road runs through a wild, sparsely grown mountainous region marked by granite rocks, reservoir lakes, and power plants.

The Alpine pass and the legendary Great St. Bernard Hospice symbolise the hospitality shown by the monks to travellers over the centuries. Barry, the large and good-natured St. Bernard dog, is famous for saving the lives of lost mountaineers – this four-legged hero has always been bred here.
