Hormones have a huge influence on our lives; they are important for our overall development, our metabolism and our emotional well-being.
Endocrinology deals with the function and regulation of this highly complex system and treats any disorders that may develop with it. These include conditions affecting the thyroid gland, the parathyroid glands, the adrenal glands, the gonads and the pituitary gland, which can lead to the over- or under-production of hormones. Diseases such as diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis and obesity, as well as endocrine tumours, are also treated.
